SUMMARY:GAC Military Interaction Program
DESCRIPTION:The German American Conference at HKS is proud to host its “Military Interaction Program (MIP)” as part of its conference. First established in 2022\, the MIP invites officer candidates of the US military and of the German Armed Forces to join the conference as participants. The purpose of this program is to expose these future leaders in the military to debates beyond their standard curriculum\, to include them as obvious stakeholders in conversations about security policy\, and to enable them to share their viewpoints with all the other GAC participants. This exchange serves to increase interest in matters of national security and provides a unique platform for civilian attendees to engage with a world that remains elusive to most. \nAll our military speakers and attendees will wear their uniform at the GAC. We encourage everyone to engage with them\, and vice versa! \nBesides organizing public events and workshops centered around security policy\, the GAC MIP team organizes events dedicated to these military participants that complement the overall conference\, such as an ethics workshop with an HLS professor\, or a masterclass with senior leaders in charge of defending an entire flank of the transatlantic alliance. \nPARTICIPATING MILITARY ACADEMIES 2024: \n\nUniversität der Bundeswehr München (Germany)\nHelmut-Schmidt University Hamburg (Germany)\nUnited States Military Academy at West Point (United States)\nTheresianische Militärakademie (Austria)

SUMMARY:Exclusive Tour at the Harvard Art Museum
DESCRIPTION:Discover an array of artworks that transcend borders and spotlight the complexities of modern German identity on a private tour with the curator of the museum\, Dr. Lynette Roth!  \nMade in Germany? Art and Identity in a Global Nation takes an unprecedented look at German art since 1980. Featuring artists from different generations and diverse backgrounds\, the exhibition complicates notions of German identity\, especially the idea of ethnic and cultural homogeneity. In fact\, the country is second only to the United States as a destination for immigrants from around the world. The exhibition offers a range of reflections on German national identity\, which was shaped by labor migration following World War II\, the unification of East and West Germany in 1990\, and the influx of asylum seekers to the country since 2015. As the pointedly interrogative title suggests\, Made in Germany? asks\, rather than offers ready answers to\, the question of who or what represents Germany today. \n  \nSign up will be announced via our newsletter the week before the conference – stay tuned!

DESCRIPTION:We are at a historic crossroads. The reelection of Donald Trump as U.S. President\, the outcome of the EU elections\, and the collapse of Germany’s governing coalition mark a turning point that will reshape the future of the transatlantic relationship. SUMMARY:Keynote: Restoring Optimism – Pathways to Progress
DESCRIPTION:In a remarkable twist of history\, November 6\, 2024 brought dual waves of political transformation: As Germans woke to news of leadership changes in America\, they would end their day learning of dramatic shifts in their own government. These parallel transitions underscore a pivotal moment in transatlantic relations. The younger generation\, in particular\, may feel like spectators in decisions that will shape their future. But perhaps we’re looking at this through the wrong lens. The moment calls not for anxiety\, but for bold vision. Today’s university graduates aren’t merely inheriting a world of challenges—they’re inheriting unprecedented opportunities to reshape it. Their education\, technological fluency\, and global mindset position them uniquely to transform apparent obstacles into pathways for progress. More to come at the opening of the German American Conference next Friday. \nSPEAKERS: \n\nNicolai Andersen: Global Strategy\, Risk & Transactions Leader\, Deloitte
