SUMMARY:GAC Military Interaction Program
DESCRIPTION:The German American Conference at HKS is proud to host its “Military Interaction Program (MIP)” as part of its conference. First established in 2022\, the MIP invites officer candidates of the US military and of the German Armed Forces to join the conference as participants. The purpose of this program is to expose these future leaders in the military to debates beyond their standard curriculum\, to include them as obvious stakeholders in conversations about security policy\, and to enable them to share their viewpoints with all the other GAC participants. This exchange serves to increase interest in matters of national security and provides a unique platform for civilian attendees to engage with a world that remains elusive to most. \nAll our military speakers and attendees will wear their uniform at the GAC. We encourage everyone to engage with them\, and vice versa! \nBesides organizing public events and workshops centered around security policy\, the GAC MIP team organizes events dedicated to these military participants that complement the overall conference\, such as an ethics workshop with an HLS professor\, or a masterclass with senior leaders in charge of defending an entire flank of the transatlantic alliance. \nPARTICIPATING MILITARY ACADEMIES 2024: \n\nUniversität der Bundeswehr München (Germany)\nHelmut-Schmidt University Hamburg (Germany)\nUnited States Military Academy at West Point (United States)\nTheresianische Militärakademie (Austria)

SUMMARY:The Future Now – Rethinking Mobility
DESCRIPTION:AI is disrupting the way we move\, in the air and on the roads. In the US\, disruptive technologies for mobility originate from the non-mobility industry and pioneering startups. The traditional industry is failing to keep up in innovative speed. In contrast\, in Germany\, the established industry leads the way in developing new forms of mobility\, yet at a much slower pace. New ways of mobility are pioneered by both start-ups and the industry giants. This raises crucial questions: Why does innovation happen so differently across the atlantic? What drives faster and more sustainable change? And what do we need to achieve the future in mobility in both countries? Which policies foster innovative change? Can change at different speeds and ways of innovation coexist? Or is Germany inevitably lagging behind? What are some of the key learnings in terms of innovation and collaboration\, with e.g. startups\, regulators and investors\, in Germany and the USA\, and how can they be scaled to other domains? \n  \nSPEAKERS: \n\nMark Fagan: Lecturer in Public Policy\, Harvard Kennedy School \nManfred Grunert: Vice President\, Government Affairs and Communications Americas\, BMW \nKent Larson:Professor of the Practice\, Director of City Science at the MIT Media Lab\, and Co-Director of the Norman Foster Institute on Sustainable Cities\, MIT\nJim Rowan: Principal\, Head of AI\, Deloitte\nModeration: Kristin Haynes: Founder & Principal Consultant\, Pedal PR

SUMMARY:Figuring Out Identity in Rap

Through hip-hop – a genre known for its raw vulnerability and realness – they channel their stories\, addressing racism\, belonging\, and the challenges of being part of a cultural minority. This discussion will give attendees a fresh perspective on these important issues by examining them through the lens of music\, creativity\, and personal expression. \n  \nSPEAKERS: \n\nKelvyn Colt/ Kelvyn Ajala : Artist / Creative Director\nAria Nejati: Head of Hip-Hop GSA\, Apple\nProf. Roy Studmire: Assistant Professor\, Berklee College of Music\nModeration: Siri Keller: Harvard Kennedy School
