Elisabeth Rosenthal, MD, is senior contributing editor at KFF Health News, an independent non-profit newsroom based in Washington DC, focusing on health and health policy. She previously was editor-in-chief of the newsroom for 6 years. From 1994-2016, she worked at the New York Times as a reporter, foreign correspondent, and senior writer. Her book “An American Sickness: How Healthcare Became Big Business and How You Can Take It Back” was a 2017 New York Times bestseller. In 2020 Washingtonian magazine named her one of the “most influential” people in DC. A graduate of Harvard Medical School, she worked as an emergency room physician before converting to full-time journalism.
