The Hertie School invites students and young professionals to submit a written or video essay exploring how Eastern German history, society, and identity shape perspectives on transatlantic relations today. The competition is part of the German American Conference 2025 presented by students at Harvard Kennedy School in Boston, one of the leading forums for transatlantic dialogue.
Eligibility: Open to all bachelor students and young professionals (aged 18-30)
Format: Written essay (PDF or Word) or video essay (MP4 or YouTube/Vimeo link)
Language: English
Length: Written: 1,000-1,500 words; Video: max. 5 minutes
Deadline: 23 October 2025, 23:59 CEST
Award: The winner will be invited to the German American Conference 2025 in Boston (14-16 November) and will receive a €1,000 prize to cover their expenses.
Outstanding entries may be published on the Hertie School website and shared with transatlantic networks. The winner will also collaborate with the Hertie School on social media and website content showcasing their experience at the conference.

The Stiftung Deutsch-Amerikanische Wissenschaftsbeziehungen (SDAW) is offering 5–10 travel scholarships of up to 1,000 EUR each to support student participation in the 17th German American Conference.
Eligibility: Applicants must be between 20 and 30 years old, students or early career researchers (primarily PhD candidates) at a German University in the social sciences or humanities. Applicants must obtain a visa (or equivalent, such as ESTA) for the US, and hold travel health insurance.
Application deadline: October 3, 2025.
Decisions will be announced in mid-October.

About: SDAW is dedicated to strengthening transatlantic academic cooperation. It funds research groups and other academic endeavours in the social sciences, broadly defined, which are composed of German, European and North American scholars and students and which work on topics of particular relevance to the transatlantic Relationship.

Issued by the Harvard Club Rhein-Ruhr, this scholarship awards a successful applicant 750€ to cover travel expenses, free admission to the conference and discounted reception tickets for GAC 2025.
Direct application to this scholarship is not possible. Candidates are pre-selected by the NRW Center for Talent Support and the recipient is selected based on their demonstrated interest in the transatlantic relation.

The Halle Foundation is a grant making foundation, located in Atlanta, Georgia, that was founded by The Coca-Cola Company executive Claus Halle to promote friendship and understanding between the peoples of Germany and the United States.
The Halle Scholars program, established in 2023, works within the mission of the Foundation to provide full funding for up to ten outstanding students from each major university in Georgia to attend the German American Conference 2025. Students are nominated by their professors or departments on grounds of high academic achievement, demonstrated interest in Germany, and high professional promise in German-American relations.
