Dr. Thomas Koenen

Since 2017, Dr Koenen is heading the department for Digitalisation and Innovation at the Federation of German Industries (BDI). In this role for the BDI as the umbrella association of German industries, he is responsible for the areas of cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, data economy, IT infrastructure as well as for research and innovation policy. Next to his activities in the BDI, Dr Koenen is Executive Director and Member of the Board of econsense - Forum for Sustainable Development of German Business. He is a fully qualified lawyer. Before his current position, he was heading the Department for Climate Change and Sustainable Development in the BDI and served as head of BDI's Department for Strategy and Coordination (Head of Staff). Dr Koenen is married, has one daughter and lives in Berlin.
