Nicola Beer is a Vice-President and Member of the European Parliament. She serves as special envoy on combatting religious discrimination and is chair of the working group on combating antisemitism. Furthermore, Mrs. Beer replaces the President of the European Parliament in regards to relations to Asian and Oceania. From 2017 - 2019 she was a Member of the German Parliament, from 2013 to 2019 Secretary General and 2019 to 2023, the deputy federal chairperson of the Free Democratic Party in Germany. In the European Parliament, she works especially in the Committees for Economy and Currencies, for Foreign Affaires as well as for Industry and Sciences.

As CEO, Hans-Paul has driven BCG's expansion by geography, industries and functions. Among others, he has established the Social Impact Initiative and the Public Sector Practice. Hans-Paul studied economics, business administration, and Chinese, receiving a Diploma from the University of Bochum, an MA from Yale University, and a DPhil from the University of Oxford, where he was a Rhodes Scholar.

Cathryn is Senior Advisor in the Bertelsmann Stiftung’s Europe’s Future Program with a focus on transatlantic relations, EU, US and German foreign and security policy, technology policy and digital diplomacy. She is also a non-resident fellow with the Global Public Policy Institute (GPPi). Previously, she served as director and CEO of the German Council on Foreign Relations (DGAP). For over a decade prior, Cathryn served as the executive director of the Future of Diplomacy Project at the Harvard Kennedy School in Cambridge, Massachusetts. The research program, which she co-founded, examines the challenges to negotiation and statecraft in the 21st century, including the impact of technology on foreign policy.
In addition, Cathryn directed the HKS Belfer Center's Project on Europe and the Transatlantic Relationship from 2018 to 2021. Before that, she served on the management board of the European Policy Centre (EPC) in Brussels and worked as both a consultant and senior journalist at Roland Berger Strategy Consultants in France and China. She began her career as a television journalist at CNN International in Atlanta and London.
Cathryn provides expert commentary in English, German and French. Her peer-reviewed publications have focused on negotiation analysis, technology policy, conflict prevention, and urban public policy, and she serves as an associate editor of the academic journal “Diplomacy and Foreign Policy” (Brill). She contributes to lead international publications, such as the Financial Times, New York Times and Washington Post, as well as leading German and global media on transatlantic relations – especially trade and security policy – and German foreign and digital policy. She also advises foreign ministries in Europe, and both North and South America on their digital strategy.
She is both a Truman (2011) and an Eisenhower Fellow (2017). Cathryn holds an undergraduate honors degree in international relations and French civilization from Brown University (1999), a master’s degree in European studies from the London School of Economics (2002) and a master’s degree in public administration (2010) from the Harvard Kennedy School where she was a Hauser Fellow in Non-Profit Management.

Dr. Sonja Kreibich took up her post as the Consul General of Germany to the New England States in July 2022. Before arriving in Boston, she served at the Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Berlin as the Head of Division for Pan African Issues, Southern Africa and the Great Lakes from 2018-22. Prior to this, she served as the Head of Unit for European Migration Policy from 2014-2018, and as press spokesperson in the Speaker’s Office from 2002-2006. Sonja’s roles within the Foreign Office have taken her abroad to the German Permanent Mission to the UN in New York as well as to the German Embassy in Bucharest, Romania. She studied law at the University of Bonn and at the University of Edinburgh and obtained a doctorate from the University of Bonn.

German Ambassador to the United States
Andreas Michaelis has been German Ambassador to the United States since August 2023. He joined the German Foreign Service in 1989. Over the course of his career, he served as Ambassador to Singapore, as Ambassador to Israel and Political Director of the Foreign Office. From 2018 to 2020, Michaelis served as State Secretary for the first time; from 2020 to 2022, he was Germany’s Ambassador to the UK; from 2022 to 2023, he again served as State Secretary.

Sacha Alanoca is an AI Governance researcher, John F. Kennedy Fellow and MPA Candidate at Harvard University. On campus, she advances responsible AI efforts as the Co-Chair of the AI & Emerging Tech Caucus at HKS and AI Leader with the Berkman Klein Center for Internet and Society. Prior to HKS, Sacha worked as a Senior AI Policy Researcher for the think tank The Future Society. She coordinated the development of Tunisia's AI national strategy, published scientific and policy papers on topics such as responsible AI for pandemic response, and joined the OECD AI Policy Observatory as an AI Expert. This summer, Sacha worked with the EU Commission on the AI Act, considered as the first comprehensive AI regulation. Sacha is Franco-Chilean. Nataliya Bugayova is a non-resident Russia Fellow at ISW and the Director of Strategic Intelligence at US tech firm Vertical Knowledge. Nataliya is also the author of How We Got Here with Russia: The Kremlin’s Worldview. Previously, she led ISW’s Russia open-source intelligence team, and prior to ISW, she worked in several roles around reform efforts in Ukraine after the 2014 EuroMaidan revolution. Nataliya holds a Master of Public Policy from the Harvard Kennedy School.

Natalie Colbert is the Belfer Center’s Executive Director. Before coming to the Center, Colbert served in the Central Intelligence Agency for 13 years. Most recently, she was Director of Analytic Resources and Corporate Programs for the Near East Mission Center, where she led strategic management of analytic personnel resources and created a career development seminar for mid-level analysts. Before coming to the Center, Colbert served in the Central Intelligence Agency for 13 years. Prior to this role, Colbert led multiple analytic teams to produce intelligence assessments covering fast-paced issues in the Middle East for the President and other customers in the policymaking, intelligence, and military communities. Colbert previously served as an intelligence analyst covering conflict zones in Africa and Latin America. Across her CIA career, Colbert has earned awards for leadership excellence and in 2021 received the Near East Mission Center Award for Excellence in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. Colbert is a 2008 graduate of Harvard Kennedy School, where she earned a Master in Public Policy. She graduated in 2006 from New York University, majoring in International Relations and Francophone Studies.

Anselm Dannecker’s does research and works with practitioners in the fields of conflict resolution and complex multistakeholder negotiations with a particular focus on climate negotiations and European politics. Dannecker has trained and consulted clients from various sectors, including European legislators and international climate NGOs, he is teaching at Northeastern University and in Executive Education programs at the Harvard Kennedy School. As a coach, Dannecker has worked with individuals in targeted one-on-one settings on understanding default behavioral patterns in negotiation settings and improving their negotiation performance.
Dannecker’s prior career has spanned entrepreneurship and public service. He has co-founded a payments venture, has served as an Economist and as an Adviser to the CEO at IFC, has advanced international financial policy working at the German central bank and has designed policy as an economic adviser for the Green Group in the German Parliament. She was a fellow of the RIAS Berlin Commission which promotes excellence in journalism and exchanges between U.S. and German journalists. She was also awarded a fellowship at the Heinz-Kuhn Foundation, where she contributed her on-the-ground research from Laos to the foundation’s annual report on development.
She received dual advanced degrees in journalism and political science from the University of Dortmund. Her studies include formal training in broadcast television from the University of Gothenburg in Sweden and multimedia storytelling at the Kaunas University of Technology in Lithuania.

Fairlee C. Fabrett, PhD, is the director of training and staff development for the child and adolescent division of McLean Hospital in Belmont, MA. She oversees and develops psychology training programs across the division. Dr. Fabrett is the coordinator for the child and adolescent tracks of the McLean APA psychology internship. She is also the director of McLean’s post-baccalaureate child and adolescent clinical fellowship, through which she provides supervision and mentorship to recent college graduates. As a native of Mexico, Dr. Fabrett has lived experience balancing the expectations placed by her culture and those imposed by her adopted country and culture. Dr. Jeffrey Hoffman is a professor in MIT’s Aeronautics and Astronautics Department. He received a BA in Astronomy (summa cum laude) from Amherst College (1966); a PhD in Astrophysics from Harvard University (1971); and an MSc in Materials Science from Rice University (1988). As a NASA astronaut (1978-1997) Dr. Hoffman made five space flights, becoming the first astronaut to log 1000 hours of flight time aboard the Space Shuttle. He was a member of the spacewalking team that repaired the optics of the Hubble Space Telescope. His primary research interests are in improving the technology of space suits and designing innovative space systems for human and robotic space exploration. Dr. Hoffman is director of the Massachusetts Space Grant Consortium. He is Deputy Principal Investigator of the Mars2020 MOXIE experiment, which will produce oxygen on the surface of Mars. In 2007, Dr. Hoffman was elected to the US Astronaut Hall of Fame.

After obtaining his doctorate in law, Levin Holle began his professional career of almost 15 years at the Boston Consulting Group. His last position was leadership of the Berlin office as Senior Partner and Managing Director, focusing on large transformation projects in the financial sector. In 2012, he was appointed Director General for Financial Markets Policy at the German Federal Ministry of Finance. His responsibilities there included financial markets regulation, management of the federal debt and the supervision of the Federal Financial Supervisory Authority (BaFin) and the federal financial institutions including the Kreditanstalt für Wiederaufbau (KfW). He was a member of the Supervisory Board of Deutsche Bahn AG from the beginning of 2018 until his appointment to the Management Board.

The book has been translated into thirty languages. Christine Jiang (CJ) is a first year Master of Public Policy student at the Harvard Kennedy School. Karl Kaiser was educated at the Universities of Cologne, Grenoble, and Oxford and taught at the Universities of Bonn, Johns Hopkins (Bologna), Saarbrücken, Cologne, the Hebrew University, and Harvard's Departments of Government and Social Studies and the Kennedy School. He founded the Program on Transatlantic Relations of the Weatherhead Center for International Affairs, which was moved to the Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs where he is now a Senior Associate. He has published numerous books and articles on German, British, French, and American foreign policies, transatlantic and East-West relations, European integration, and Asian-European relations.
He served as Director of the German Council on Foreign Relations, Bonn/Berlin and as advisor to Chancellors Brandt and Schmidt. He is a recipient of the Atlantic Award of NATO and of an Honorary Doctorate of the Russian Academy of Sciences. He is the author or editor of numerous articles and books in the fields of world affairs and European politics.

Charles Landow is a senior research associate at the Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs at Harvard Kennedy School. He is also an adjunct instructor of political science at the University of Nebraska Omaha. Landow previously worked as chief of staff to former U.S. Treasury Secretary Robert Rubin and in several roles at the Council on Foreign Relations. In 2013, he served as research director for the chair and vice chair of multi-party political negotiations in Northern Ireland. He earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Columbia University.

Fiona Mack is currently Vice President, Head of Bayer CoLab in Cambridge. In this role she is building a new cell and gene therapy incubator to accelerate innovation within the field. Prior to joining Bayer, as Head of JLABS@ TMC, Fiona was responsible for external engagement, innovation sourcing, company onboarding, portfolio management, operational excellence, educational programming and P&L. She catalyzed and supported the translation of science and technology into valuable solutions for patients and consumers across the pharmaceutical, medical device, consumer, and healthtech sectors. Fiona has held senior leadership positions at Ipsen, Roche and Pfizer supporting external innovation efforts to expand Rare Disease, Neuroscience and Oncology portfolios. Stephanie L. Woerner is Director and Principal Research Scientist at the Center for Information Systems Research (CISR) at the MIT Sloan School of Management. Stephanie studies how companies use technology and data to create more effective business models and how they manage the associated organizational change.
Her co-authored articles include "Thriving in an Increasingly Digital Ecosystem,” (named one of the top articles of the decade by SMR), “It Pays to Have a Digitally Savvy Board,” and “Does Your C-Suite Have Enough Digital Smarts?” in Sloan Management Review. In 2018, Stephanie and Peter Weill published What’s Your Digital Business Model? Six questions to help you build the next generation enterprise, (Harvard Business Review Press, 2018). Her book, co-authored with Peter Weill and Ina. M. Sebastian, Future Ready: The four pathways to capturing digital value (Harvard Business Review Press) was published in 2022.
Stephanie has done presentations and workshops for top management teams and boards of large global firms, been a subject matter expert for The Wall Street Journal CEO Council, and moderated a number of panels, including one on the future of financial services for the Federal Reserve. She earned her Ph.D. in Organizational Behavior from the Stanford Graduate School of Business.
